MARTIN MARGIELA F/W 2001 2-WAY FAUX SHEARLING PEACOAT

A very interesting piece from Maison Martin Margiela's 2001 production. This coat features a two colored faux shearling lining that runs half the length of the interior garment, except for within the sleeves where there is a quilted lining. There are 6 large buttons on the exterior of the garment. Additionally, there is thick fabric looping tucked within the facing on each side of the jacket. The buttons and looping together function as the central closure and they can be worn both left and right to fit the wearer. Throughout the garment, there are brown leather details rendered in an arrow like shape that accentuate the piece. On the back, there is a belt that can be adjusted or tied to the liking of the wearer.

Apart from the interesting details, where this piece really shines is within its silhouette and fit. The intended shape of the piece is to be slightly oversized as it drapes on top of the wearer in an elegant and distinctly Margiela fashion.

Featured in this post, is an iteration of this jacket that was brought back and re-released by the Maison for their F/W 2007 presentation.
