Helmut Lang S/S 2001 Coated Linen Suit

By 2001, Helmut Lang was going into his third year since transplanting himself and the studio to New York City. Lang's work continued to speak directly to his immediate clientele as the designs fit exceptionally well into the zeitgeist of the time. Sleek silhouettes, modern adaptations of well-known classics, and playful yet always sexy juxtaposition were some clear characteristics. This coated linen suit from the 2001 production is arguably a quintessential and efficient representation of the designer's early 2000's presence. 

The piece is constructed of a high quality linen with a tight warp and weft. The material has a sheen like coating that allows the garment to reflect light in an incredibly interesting way. It is a rewarding contrast between the light and airy linen and the almost leather-like appearance of the surface that sits on top. Lang abides by certain traditional elements of suitmaking as the piece contains all of the components necessary for a well-formed suit. It is a single vent, two button jacket with three faux buttons on each sleeve. There are three exterior pockets found on the garment with a total of four pockets found inside. The trousers are a flat front with an extended waist that closes over the internal placket. Buttons are utilized for the central closure with two slash pockets found on each side of the front and two pockets on the back. 

Lang not only modernizes the garment through material consideration as the silhouette and details of the garment are also uniquely considered. The jacket features a slimming yet comfortable shape that envelopes the body of the wearer in an elegant way, while The trousers are sleek and emphasize the length of the leg. 

The piece is in exceptional condition and features no signs of heavy wear. Fabric has been extended at the bottom of the trousers and can be taken back in if desired.
