Helmut Lang F/W 2003 Wool Trousers w/ Leather Insert/Leg Wrap
Helmut Lang's collection for Fall 2003 focused on the concept of the urban warrior. He did so while maintaining his ever strong focus on luxury. Harnesses rendered in high quality nylon and silk, form fitting tops fashioned out of wool that fit like corsetry, and several garments derived from military reference graced the runway for this year.
This pair of pants fits into the collection seamlessly and in some ways understated in relation to some of the garments familiar to this production. However, it is a piece that is uniquely fashioned and represents the work of Helmut Lang in a resounding way.
The body of the trouser is constructed of virgin wool. On the right knee of the wearer, a circular leather based patch is sewn into the wool to form a base for an adjustable leather wrap that encompasses the leg. This concept also brings to mind the wrapped pants that Helmut Lang created for his 1999 production, this version has been updated in more luxurious fabrics to grace the wearer.
There are 2 slit pockets featured on each leg with 2 additional back pockets with button closures. The central closure utilizes 4 buttons with a top clasp closure alongside the waistband. Additionally, there are hanging straps on each side of the garment for care.
